LITTLE: Shop Talk and Other Smart Banter

In August of 2012, Little released its storied white paper on retail shopping habits that built on the legendary shopping study by Dr. Edward Tauber’s 1972 work, "Why Do People Shop?”. That landmark study analyzed consumer behavior and has helped retailers of all sizes ever since then succeed.

"Shop Talk: Building Brand Loyalty by Understanding Today's Shopping Behaviors and Realities” re-enforced Tauber’s theories about shopping as a social experience and what motivations inspired shoppers 40 years ago when Watergate was news, flares were HOT, ABBA was IN and The Brady Bunch was on, and an average house cost under $8,000. EXCEPT for the life-changing impact of technology on brick-and-mortar stores and the fact that Millennials, with their discriminating tastes, are the largest emerging demographic.

Aside from getting significant local coverage on the study from the Star Tribune, the Downtown Journal, MinnPost and others, the story generated interest across the U.S. and around the world when the news release about the study was put on Business Wire:

  • 9,814 Impressions

  • 1,302 News Release Views

  • The release was seen in 677 other areas besides the US, including Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and Sweden.

It also led to an invitation from a retail trade site, loyalty360.com, to write an opinion piece about the study for its readers.

Leveraging Shop Talk was just one of the many "hits" Media Savant secured for the longtime design company over the course of several years, generating other stories about account wins, new hires and client re-brands at places like American Public Media's "Marketplace."
